Tony Winston has been a private piano instructor for twenty years. He is a certified in the Suzuki Method and the Yamaha Music Education System. Tony has a private piano studio with his Cathy Gittelson, and maintains a roster of about 40 students. He also teaches jazz, pop and directs 'garage band' class which gives his students ensemble experience and exposure to drums, bass, piano, electric piano, clavinet and keyboards. His students have attended the Juilliard Summer Jazz program and other programs at U.N.C., Stanford, and Georgia State.
Mr. Winston studies classical piano with Lois Finlay (2012 GA music teacher of the year). Previously he studied jazz piano and arranging with Ted Howe. He has mentored several successful singers including 3 time Grammy nominee Denise Donatelli. He was the graduation director of the AASPA program for 6 years.
As a soloist and with his trio and big band, he has been heard in most of the venues throughout the city. As a well-respected vocalist, he has performed with numerous ensembles and jazz performers throughout the south. Winston's "Mondo Swing" has performed for corporate functions, weddings and private events since 1999. He frequently appears with his band at the Ritz-Carlton in Buckhead and also with Del Baroni and Jennifer Hanson at Ray's On The River.
